We have many homes in the Springfield area with basements.  I'm surprised you don't have more.  Is it due to the soil or the amount of rock in your area?

Yes Kay, it's due to the sandy soil, the granite on the east side and the lava rock on the west side, but I think it's also influenced by tradition. There is no expectation to find a basement here. Never has been, never will be(?)

Rich, the soil content makes sense.  I like our basement even if it mostly a storage area!
