If you're an older agent I want to know: Have you adapted to online Real Estate?
For those of you who are holding out on all these changes in online real estate, let me tell you about my daughter Allison. I am so proud of my daughter Allison. She made her first business cards today.
No, she's not following in her dad's footsteps and going into real estate. Not yet anyway.
Her new business is called "Groceries are Fun!" She even has a great tag line: "I'll carry your worries away!"
We're not sure exactly what services she is going to offer, because, you see, she is only 9 years old.
Can you make your own business cards online? Do you have the computer skills that today's 9-year olds are learning? If you don't, it's time to sail off into the sunset. Today's real estate is done online. The marketing that sells houses is online. The networking between professionals is done online. The information that consumers want about all aspects of real estate is online. If you're an older agent have you adapted?
Oh, and did I mention? Coming soon: My daughter's new website. No she's not desiging it herself. Her older brother is. He's 11 and oh, you know what? He works with HTML code! Do you even know what that is?
Move over dinosuars! Adapt or become extinct. Lose all the hairspray, the fancy car and the self-indulgent networking lunch and let the internet generation take over! We serve our clients so much better than you can!

I have a seller who is like this. He thinks my internet marketing is free. One day I showed him how his home was being marketed on my windows phone. He hasn't asked me to advertise in the paper since.
Regardless of your age, you must have an online status. This then leads to SEO and maintaining a website, blog sites, online advertising (like on Craig's List) and a multitude of other things you must do. If you are old school, then you will miss out on so many opportuinities.
Hey Rich, it's all too true! There are so many great and wonderful free tools online that benefit businesses, large and small.
Yes, yes and Yes! The internet will change everything, but nothing more than homebuying!
wait...what do you consider older? LOL...and yes, if you can't keep up...you'll ...well, you'll be out of business!
You are right -- those of use who can't keep up will be left behind.
More and more is done online, but there is still a place for print ads. There is a percentage of business still done there, mainly by us old folks.
Robert-A tiny and ever shrinking percentage!
I have been with computers and online since I first got into the business.
Comment #6 (E.?) asked what I wanted to ask. I began creating video and approached Realtors before You Tube. Not many had the vision then. Seems the most natural thing in the world - but some will just never get it.
You are absolutely correct. I am 29 an already feel like I'm behind. These days in order to have a nice facebook fan page without paying thousands of dollars is to learn the FBML. There is soooo much technology out there and to be successful business people we must grab it by the horns!
Way to go to your daughter!
Yes, I am there. I think it is great that your kids are so literate with computers and the Internet. At their age, I was outside playing in the woods, swinging from grapevines, building tree houses, etc.
Don't worry everyone, "Older" is just a state of mind!
Rebecca-We do some of that too!
Hi Rich, You're right of course, I'm waiting for my grandson to turn 9 so he can help me LOL!
Rich,
I'll have to ask Joel his opinion on this. LOL
