Ventana Ranch is a Great Place to Live!

When I first moved to Albuquerque there were two major problems with living in Ventana Ranch. The first was the lack of a major road to get you from Northeast Albuquerque to Ventana Ranch, the other was the lack of Schools in Ventana Ranch.

Roads

The Paseo del Norte road extension was opened in 2007. The commute time to travel to Ventana Ranch has shortened considerably. Not only is it a straight shot, there is much less traffic congestion.

Schools

Building in Ventana Ranch began in early 2000's. Builders were quick to build, quicker than the city of Albuquerque and APS were to build schools. In 2005 school overcrowing reached crisis proportions, and community pressure resulted in the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) starting construction on 4 new schools.

I attended several of the public meetings where concerned parents made their voice known in no uncertain turn to APS officials about the need for new schools. The meetings were boisterous yet prodcutive. It was communtiy activism at it's best and is indicative of the kind of neighborhood Ventana Ranch is. The residents care.

Volcano Vista High School was the first new school to open in 2007. This fall (2009), a new middle school and two new elementary schools opened as well. School overcrowding has been greatly reduced and so have the number of portable classrooms.
