Old San Ysidro Church
"This church was constructed in 1868 after a flood destroyed an earlier building. Built on land donated by the Gutierrez family of Corrales it incorporates materials salvaged from the original structure and is one of the finest surviving examples of 19th century religious architecture in New Mexico." Corrales NM
Corrales NM is a unique place. The sleepy Village of Corrales is nestled between Albuquerque (to the south), Rio Rancho (to the north and west) and the Sandia Pueblo to the east. The population of Corrales is about 7500 people.
When you drive into Corrales you know immediately that you have crossed into a different kind of place.
The first thing you notice is that it's really green. That's because it's on the banks of the Rio Grande. You'll see horses, cattle and sheep as you drive through town, plus you'll see apple orchards and grape vineyards too.
Corrales is an Historical place. Prehistoric sites indicate the Corrales valley had inhabitants as early as 500 AD. Besides Old San Ysidro church, today there are shops and restaurants in town, including some very fine places to eat.
